How to watch Apple’s iPhone 7 launch live: stream Apple’s 7 September event live
The iPhone 7 is coming. Its arrival is as certain as the world turning, the tides rising and falling, and Britain’s summer being completely over in the first week of September. Apple’s new iPhone is on the cusp of its public unveiling and, despite all the rumours circulating about it lacking a headphone port, having a dual-lens camera, or even coming in a new colour, the world will watch as Apple announces the next generation of iPhone.
But how can you watch the iPhone 7 launch live? Every year Apple makes it easier to watch along with its keynotes, even if they’re as dull as this year’s WWDC event. If you’re a Mac, iPhone or iPad user, you have no excuse on missing out on the action, but even if you prefer your Windows PC, there’s still a way to watch along.
How to watch the iPhone 7 launch live: On Mac, iPhone and iOS
If you’re already embedded in camp Apple, you can watch the 7 September event live via your Apple device.
If you’re using an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch running iOS 7 or later, you can open your Safari browser, head on over to Apple.com and tune into the stream directly.
Mac users can also watch along online so long as they’re running Safari 6.0.5 or later on OS X 10.8.5 (which is Mountain Lion for those of you who haven’t memorised version numbers). If you’re unsure which version of OS X you’re running, you can find out by clicking on the Apple logo on your desktop’s top menu and clicking the “About” button.
How to watch the iPhone 7 launch live: Apple TV
If you’re lucky, or silly, enough to have an Apple TV, you can watch along with Apple’s iPhone 7 launch from the comfort of your sofa.
If you have a second- or third-generation Apple TV (so 2010 or later), you’ll need to make sure it’s running software version 6.2 to be able to access the live viewing app. If you bought a fourth-generation Apple TV (so 2015 or onwards, comes with the touchpad remote), then you can watch it without having to worry about updating anything at all.
How to watch the iPhone 7 launch live: PC
If you don’t have a Mac, iOS device or Apple TV, you can watch along via your PC. I’d have to wonder why you’d be interested in watching along if you don’t have any Apple products, but you can do so if you’re running Windows 10 and have Microsoft’s Edge browser installed. If that’s you, just visit the Apple website and you can watch along live from 10am PDT (6pm BST) on 7 September.
Sorry Chromebook, Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Google Chrome users, you can’t watch the iPhone launch live.
Worry not, though, as we’ll be covering all the news from the event live in our iPhone 7 hub. You’ll also be able to keep up on iOS 10, macOS and Apple Watch 2 news via our individual hubs too. You can also follow our man David Court on Twitter as he live-tweets the event as our boots-on-the-groudn correspondent and delivers our first hands-on coverage of everything new and shiny Apple announces.
